Simulations of single and multiple swimmers with non-divergence free deforming geometries

چکیده
We present a vortex particle method coupled with a penalization technique to simulate single and multiple swimmers in an incompressible, viscous flow in two and three dimensions. The proposed algorithm can handle arbitrarily deforming bodies and their corresponding non-divergence free deformation velocity fields. The method is validated on a number of benchmark problems with stationary and moving boundaries. Results include flows of tumbling objects and single and multiple self-propelled swimmers. 2011 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Finite element simulation of two-point incremental forming of free-form parts
Two-point incremental forming method is considered a modern technique for manufacturing shell parts. The presence of bottom punch during the process makes this technique far more complex than its conventional counterpart i.e. single-point incremental forming method. Thus, the numerical simulation of this method is an essential task, which leads to the reduction of trial/error costs, predicts th...
متن کاملIncompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations on free surface flows
The water wave generation by wave paddle and a freely falling rigid body are examined by using an Incompressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (ISPH). In the current ISPH method, the pressure was evaluated by solving pressure Poisson equation using a semi-implicit algorithm based on the projection scheme and the source term of pressure Poisson equation contains both of divergence free ve...
متن کاملA Novel Toolbox for Generating Realistic Biological Cell Geometries for Electromagnetic Microdosimetry
Researchers in bioelectromagnetics often require realistic tissue, cellular and sub-cellular geometry models for their simulations. However, biological shapes are often extremely irregular, while conventional geometrical modeling tools on the market cannot meet the demand for fast and efficient construction of irregular geometries. We have designed a free, user-friendly tool in MATLAB that comb...
متن کاملPredicting sprint performance of front-crawl swimming in young swimmers with an emphasis on biomechanical, muscle architectural and anthropometrical factors
Youth swimming performance may be influenced by anthropometric, physiology, and biomechanical factors. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationships between 50-m front-crawl swimming performance and relevant anthropometrical (body height, body mass, body mass index, arm span, shoulders width, thigh, leg and upper arm lengths), muscle architectural (muscle thickness, pennation ...
متن کاملEnhanced diffusion by reciprocal swimming.
Purcell's scallop theorem states that swimmers deforming their shapes in a time-reversible manner ("reciprocal" motion) cannot swim. Using numerical simulations and theoretical calculations we show here that, in a fluctuating environment, reciprocal swimmers undergo, on time scales larger than that of their rotational diffusion, diffusive dynamics with enhanced diffusivities, possibly by orders...
